Entertainment Robots

Entertainment robots perform motion or interaction for an audience. Animatronic figures, stage machines and interactive exhibits can use scripted sequences, operator commands or sensor-based responses. Appearance does not reveal the control method.

How these robots work

A show system coordinates movement with timing, sound and audience access. Its useful performance measures include repeatability, missed cues and staff recovery time. A prerecorded sequence should be described as such.

Examples and applications

  • Animatronic characters
  • Programmed stage performers
  • Interactive robotic exhibits

What to check for the intended task

  • Identify which movements are scripted, remote-controlled or sensor-driven.
  • Test repeated shows and recovery after a missed cue.
  • Check the separation between moving mechanisms and the audience.
