Mobile and logistics robotics

Mobile Manipulators

Mobile manipulators combine a moving base with an arm. The base places the arm near the task and the arm performs the contact action.

How these robots work

Navigation and arm planning share coordinate transforms. Base position error can move the expected grasp point away from the real object.

How to compare the task

Compare the complete drive, reach and grasp sequence. A successful grasp from a fixed starting pose does not establish mobile manipulation.

Examples and applications

  • Mobile pick and place
  • Lab service tasks
  • Shelf access research

Limits of this category

  • The arm's workspace changes with base placement.
  • A long reach or heavy payload can affect platform stability.

What to check for the intended task

  • Measure grasp success after different approach poses
  • Record base motion during arm contact
  • Test reach with nearby obstacles
