Pipeline and Sewer Inspection Robots

Pipeline inspection robots carry cameras or measurement tools through a pipe. Pipe diameter, bends and access points determine which crawler can enter and return.

How these robots work

The crawler moves the sensor while recording distance along the pipe. Lighting and view direction affect how defects are located in the recording.

How to compare the task

Judge inspected length with identifiable defects and locations. Travel through the pipe can produce poor evidence when the view is obscured.

Examples and applications

  • Sewer camera surveys
  • Pipe condition records
  • Crawler inspection

Limits of this category

  • Debris can block the drive or camera.
  • An image alone cannot establish the remaining wall thickness.

What to check for the intended task

  • Test the smallest required diameter and bends
  • Check viewing under standing water or deposits
  • Document retrieval from a stalled position
