Quality Inspection Robots
Quality inspection robots position sensors or parts to examine a product. The sensor and inspection method determine which defects are detectable.
How these robots work
A repeatable pose exposes the required surface to the camera or measurement tool. Software evaluates the observation against stated acceptance rules.
How to compare the task
Report missed defects and false rejection on labeled samples. Inspection speed cannot establish detection quality without a ground-truth set.
Examples and applications
- Visual defect inspection
- Dimensional measurement
- Sensor positioning
Limits of this category
- A camera cannot detect every internal defect.
- A detection model can fail on defect types absent from training.
What to check for the intended task
- Include known defective and acceptable samples
- Test lighting variation and surface reflections
- Measure repeatability after repositioning
